Just something for the homepage after a really remarkable, allthough still small competition in bulgaria.
We had a really nice competition in Dupnitsa, Bulgaria, situated beneath a 2400m high mountain range. Thus the weather was very similar to alpine conditions. Very calm in the morning with increasing winds through the afternoon. Actually we experienced every kind of weather we could imagine for that period of season. Absolute floatingconditions, rare light thermals, heavy, gusty winds with rain, scattered skies with strong thermals and huge sink.....everything the F3J-Pilot desires!
It was the first time that Sotir Lazarkov put his Aeroclubmates together and organized an F3J-Event on Eurotour-Level. Therefore and because of the long ride to the bulgarian countryside only a few competitors took the effort participating in this event. Nevertheles it was held with lots of enthusiasm by the bulgarian team. They brought up voluntary helpers, a Radio and TV-Team and the local newspaper for recording the flights and taking interviews. The 32 competitors from 5 nations could fly 8 preliminary rounds and 2 flyoffs in a real relaxed way. And there was even time enough to enjoy the bulgarian food during the noontime.
The sportive level was also extremely high showing off EUROTOUR-Leader Primoz Rizner (who sadly had to give the leadership to Philip Kolb after this Event), Arijan and Josip Hucaljuk which are flying their planes at astonishingly mean precision, Mustafa Koc, who is pushing to get Fly-off bonus for this years Eurotour and getting everyone noticed that his Pike perfect can float out everything on the field and Philip Kolb who chooses this event joining his Turkish friends and practise for the upcoming WC.
In the end only Arijan and Philip flew out both flyoffs with Arijan taking the top spot by landing with the mentioned mean precision. Nevertheless, Philip Kolb ended up second with being the only pilot not landing early in all of the ten flights.
1st: Arijan Hucaljuk (CRO)
2nd: Philip Kolb (GER)
3rd: Josip Hucaljuk (CRO)
4th: Mustafa Koc (TUR)
5th: Primoz Rizner (SLO)
Congratulations to the Winners and Thanks once more to the organizer. Letˇs hope to see again at Dupnitsa-Airfield for the F3J BulgarianOpen 2007 (with growth in participation and a national contender in the fly-offs)!
All the best:
